New 7/20/09: Pre-Wedding Cookout

New (7/11/09): Registry?

New (6/09): What to wear? What to bring?

New (5/09): We have a block of rooms reserved at the Carleton Hotel. Click here for more.

When is the wedding?

The wedding will take place in the evening of August 1, 2009.

This is only 2009-8-1 00:00:00 GMT-06:00 away!

Where is the wedding?

The ceremony / dinner / party will be held at Pleasant Home in Mill's Park in Oak Park, IL.

Pleasant Home

This is a rounded bit of Pleasant Home which stands in stark contrast to the angular bits. Very interesting.

Pleasant Home with Girl

In December '08 we all toured pleasant home. The lion is part of the front cement bits of Pleasant Home. It symbolizes peace and the invention of Jell-O by Pearl B. Wait in the same year Pleasant Home was built: 1897.

Pleasant Home Front

Here is Jelly standing in front of Pleasant Home. In the summer the brown foliage is all painted green.

What kind of wedding is it?

A smallish, casual wedding of about 70 or so people gathered for a non-trad / semi-trad ceremony followed by eating and dancing. There's nothing funky you'll be asked to do, except get funky.

How do I get there?

Here is where the Pleasant Home (217 Home Ave, Oak Park, IL) is in relation to the airport and downtown:

What should I wear?

Clothing is preferred. Oak Park is stuffy like that.  Kristin will be wearing a simple white dress of some sort - maybe a linen one with spaghetti straps, maybe silk tricotine (whatever that is) with a white sash, still not sure - and comfortable but fabulous shoes.  Jonathan will be rocking a vest and, possibly for the first time in his life, a tie. Oh, and he'll be wearing pants.  Kristin's dad might wear a Hawaiian shirt.  Flip flops are welcome, as are feather boas, sarongs, top hats, and lederhosen. (And Jonathan's friend Stevie will win the tightest pants contest yet again!)

Kristin (left) has worn a lovely black strapless number to the Lewis and Clark graduation party for Theater majors, 1992. Jonathan (right) has gone low-key for the occassion, choosing the brown loafers to subtly comment upon the clothing-based acid trip he is wearing.

Where are you registered?

The pleasure of your company is the most important gift you can give us and we certainly don't wish for anything but that. So, really, seriously, you don't have to bring a darn thing.

BUT, if you feel like getting something please feel free to make something like a picture, novella, poem, photo, wicker basket, life-size replica of the TARDIS, pinecone diorama, or whatever strikes your fancy.

If you're not the artsy type, can't find pinecones, or just feel like expressing your love by helping us get some much needed stuff we can use, we have a few things registered at:

Target (pr: Tar-Jay)

Bed, Bath & Beyond (will we require a Bath in the Beyond?)

Crate & Barrel (b/c if there's one thing we'll need, it's barrels.)

Other ideas for free or not much money if you're interested:

Pre-Wedding Cookout

You should have gotten an exciting e-vite to our pre-wedding cookout. If not, consider yourself e-vited anyway. We'll be hanging out in Taylor Park (corner of Division and Ridgeland in Oak Park) on Friday 8/31 beginning about 5PM and cooking out some cookout.

Here's a map showing the location of Taylor Park vis-a-vis the wedding site and Carleton Hotel.

If you're in town, feel free to bring a side dish or drinks (not strictly necessary). If you're from out-of-town just bring yourselves. Make sure to bring children, dogs, bikes, frisbees or whatever you like.

Feel free to e-mail or call with questions.
